Even the strongest relationships can get stuck in patterns that feel hard to break — recurring arguments, emotional distance, tension, or a sense of disconnection that lingers beneath the surface.

At Access Therapy, we offer evidence-based relationship therapy for people who want more than quick fixes. Our work helps couples rebuild trust, deepen emotional intimacy, and create lasting relational change.

Couples therapy isn’t easy — it’s a collaborative process that asks for commitment and effort but offers the possibility of lasting change in return.

We provide receipts after every session and sessions are eligible for reimbursement through most extended health insurance plans.

When Couples Therapy May Help

A man lying on his stomach on a bed, looking sad or contemplative, with a woman in the background sitting on the bed.

Couples counselling can be a powerful support if you’re experiencing:

  • the same conflict repeating without resolution

  • emotional distance or loss of connection

  • difficulty communicating without escalation or shutdown

  • rebuilding trust after betrayal or rupture

  • navigating life transitions, stress, or parenting strain

  • mismatched needs around intimacy, closeness, or boundaries

  • wanting to strengthen your relationship proactively

Ideally, both couples show up to therapy and commit to doing the work, but couples work doesn’t always require two people in the room to begin. Relationship therapy for individuals can support you in understanding your role in patterns, feeling more grounded, and moving forward with greater intention.

Many couples seek therapy not because they’ve failed — but because the relationship matters enough to invest in.

Our Approach to Couples Counselling

Our couples therapists offer relational, trauma-informed couples therapy grounded in safety, honesty, and emotional depth.

No two couples are the same, so your therapy won’t be either.

Depending on your needs, sessions may integrate:

  • Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT)

  • Gottman Therapy strategies

  • Cognitive Behavioural Conjoint Therapy (CBCT)

  • attachment-based relationship work

  • communication and conflict repair tools

We help couples move beyond surface-level skills into understanding the deeper emotional patterns underneath conflict — so real repair becomes possible.

What Couples Often Gain Through Therapy

With the right support, couples often experience:

  • healthier, more effective communication

  • reduced conflict and emotional reactivity

  • greater closeness, safety, and trust

  • stronger tools for navigating stress together

  • deeper understanding of one another’s needs

  • renewed connection and shared direction

  • playfulness, joy

Relationships don’t thrive by accident — they thrive through care, intention, and support.

Finding the right couples therapist matters.

Effective couples work depends not only on training and experience, but also on creating a space where both partners feel safe, understood, and able to engage honestly in the process.

Because couples therapy is relational by nature, the fit needs to work for you as a team — you don’t have to find a couples therapist on your own.

Your first step is a free consultation, where we’ll take time to understand what brings you in, answer your questions, and thoughtfully match you with the therapist on our team best suited to support your relationship.

A free consultation allows you to:

  • share what your relationship has been navigating

  • explore the kind of support you’re looking for together

  • review fees, insurance, and availability

  • be matched with the right therapist for your goals as a couple
