Do you feel like you’re coping and functioning okay but not really thriving in the long run? Do you experience guilt, shame, anger or fear and need some support in moving through it?

Meet Marion.

Marion is a Registered Social Worker with 7+ years of working with folks navigating systemic barriers like homelessness, criminalization, and substance use. They approach therapeutic work with a strong trauma-informed lens and are highly adept at supporting folks in recognizing the strengths they already possess, but struggle to see within the haze of trauma responses or circumstances.

The reality is that sometimes we develop coping strategies that work within one context, but not another, or function well as a short-term solution, but add up to take away from how we want to live our lives in the long run. Other times, we may be dealing with conditions or other people that we experience as the source of our difficulty. Regardless of what we are struggling with internally or externally, whether we have guilt or shame or anger or fear, Marion is here to support you to find a process to move through and alongside it.

Working primarily from an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy framework, Marion aims to support your journey towards strategies of empowerment and coping, a deeper relationship with yourself, and a greater sense of agency in your life. A part of this relationship is developing a stronger connection between the body and mind (aka somatic work), observing and developing tools to weave together the two and slowly transforming your reactions into grounded responses. Through collaboration and psychoeducation, you will develop a keener sense of what processes work for you, providing space for feedback, and a confidence to apply the strategies you develop together to other difficulties moving forward.

Self-Disclosure

I identify as bi-gender and am queer.

I find this life experience has provided me with a wider perspective on gender and sexuality that is supportive for all persons of various gender and sexual orientations. Whether that is a woman who has breast cancer and is feeling impacted by the prospect of a mastectomy, and what that means for her and her gender identity. Or, a man who wants to honour their masculinity and feels restricted by what intimacy he can share with feminine-identified people.

Gender-affirming and value-driven care is for everyone.

Marion the Person

What has been your favourite age growing up and why?

Any time that is now. I like ageing and like most people, I struggle to do everything all of the time that would help me age gracefully (finding time for the gym between commitments can be hard!). However, I like building on whatever habits and relationships I've developed with myself so far, and look forward to continuing to work on that.

Pain is communication about something that matters to us, and if we can step back to allow space for it, it can transform how we manage and experience it, even have appreciation for it.

Do you live by any words of wisdom, or a motto?

Change every economy to value quality of life ecologically and socially over exploitation for the wealth of few.

If you could snap your fingers and make the world better, what would you do?
